Mass loaded vinyl (MLV) is a soundproofing material that is designed to be a sound barrier,  and unlike other traditional noise reduction materials like mineral wool also acts as a sound absorber. Ideal for floors, walls and ceilings as well as more custom projects such as automotive, duct, pipe work, compressors and machinery. If you have noisy neighbours  or wish to reduce the noise between floors in a house or apartment building then MLV is an ideal solution. MLV works on the principle of reflecting the sound back to where it came from.

  • Highly flexible unlike more traditional soundproofing materials which tend to me more rigid, can be wrapped and moulded as desired.
  • Although not fireproof, MLV can withstand high temperatures. 
  • Ideal for floors as it will reduce the noise of footsteps etc.

  • Adds significant mass to structures reducing noise transmission without taking away space from a room or area.

Good to know

  • Our MLV is supplied in sheet form 
  • MLV can be painted with a a latex paint
  • If being used as a soundproofing for walls or ceilings  it is recommended that it is sandwiched between two layers of plasterboard. To enhance the soundproofing, you may want to use acoustic plasterboard.
  • Make sure that there is are no gaps when installing, to ensure maximum soundproofing, we recommend using an acoustic sealant 
  • When installing MLV on a floor ensure the entire floor is covered and there are no gaps, use a clear tape to seal any joins
